LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 28, 2014) — On Tuesday, March 25, in Frankfort, State Representative David Meade of Stanford honored a University of Kentucky trauma patient, Kinney Noe, and the rescue teams, including UK's Trauma Services team, that Noe credits with saving his life after he was critically injured two years ago in a hunting accident.
On Nov. 13, 2011, Noe was critically injured while deer hunting on his farm in Lincoln County. Rep. Meade was also hunting on Noe's farm the day of the accident and was present to assist rescuers. Through the coordination of the Kentucky Trauma System, Noe was rescued and rapidly mobilized to UK's Level 1 Trauma Center. Dr. Andrew Bernard, trauma medical director at UK, said "Mr. Noe is a living example of what a trauma system can achieve, and we hope that someday all Kentuckians can have access to the organized care that saved his life."
Meade proposed four resolutions to honor Stanford EMS, Lincoln County EMS, Kentucky Air Evac Lifeteam, and the UK Level 1 Trauma Center for their expedited, efficient, expert, and personal care of Noe. Recounting the events of the day Noe was injured, Meade identified each team member who was involved in Noe's rescue, treatment, and recovery. Most notably, Meade described the group as "real heroes for the work that they do every day."
The House unanimously passed all four resolutions.
Attendees from UK were: Maureen Kluesener, Theresa Neal, Susan Taylor, staff nurses for Trauma Services; Jan Davis, patient care manager for Trauma/Surgical Services; Lisa Fryman, nursing director for Trauma/Surgical Services; and Dr. Bernard Boulanger, chief medical officer at UK HealthCare.
"This type of efficient coordination of care for trauma victims is exactly what trauma systems are designed to do," Fryman said. This rapid mobilization to trauma centers has been shown to improve outcomes."
Noe travels across the state to tell his story, which he refers to as a miracle.
"It is by the grace of God and the help of the people at UK that I am alive today," Noe said. "I can't say enough good things about UK. Everybody did their job. Without that and divine intervention, things would have turned out very differently."
